The Wonderland, Inc family is proud to present its 2013 New Year Orientation (NYO) Program. NYO is the Wonderland, Inc’s overall effort to ensure that new students are well prepared for the journey toward academic excellence and personal development at Wonderland Private School and Beatrice Mayes Institute Charter School, respectively. In addition to helping you successfully make the transition to your new academic environment for our NEW students, or for the next grade level for our returning students, the orientation program is the beginning of ongoing retention initiatives that are designed to support higher expectations as you matriculate through the years. Listed below are several of the activities that will take place during the orientation week:
Monday, August 19th: Check-In and Hospitality Activities You are to arrive on campus on Monday, August 19th, between the hours 7:30 a.m. and 8:10 a.m. When you enter the campus, you will be greeted by members of the Wonderland, Inc family who will guide you to your assigned classroom. A Help Service Area located in the cafeteria will be available to you and your parents/guardians to address special needs.
Tuesday, August 20th – Wednesday, August 21st: Testing (in the morning); Welcoming Ceremonies with Administrators, Faculty, Staff, and Students; BMI Academic Program; and Community Resources. During the orientation week, you and your parents/guardians will be greeted in an opening assembly by the Founder, Superintendent of Schools, administrators, faculty, and staff. You will also be provided important information on topics, such as: The Wonderland, Inc Academic Program, The Young Renaissance Man (or Woman), Campus Life Programs and Organizations, Standards of Conduct Policies, Safety, etc.
Thursday, August 22nd Cultural and Social Activities: Throughout the orientation program you and your new brothers and sisters will engage in structured educational, cultural, and social activities, which are designed to enhance your overall transition to the school. You will participate in learning activities designed to familiarize you with the powerful history of the school, group discussions on transitions to school life at Wonderland / BMI, and social interactions with the community.
Thursday, August 22nd Rites of Passage and Student Bonding Activities: An array of highly spirited and safe brotherhood and sisterhood initiation and bonding activities will be provided for you and your new brothers and sisters throughout the orientation program. These activities are designed to encourage the “spirit” of brotherhood/ sisterhood and support among you and your classmates.
Friday, August 23rd Alumni Interaction/Spirit Day: Alumni will play an active role in your orientation by sharing their personal experiences from their student days at Wonderland/BMI and by describing what it means to be a “Wonderland Scholar.” During Spirit Day, alumni will discuss salient features of the history and legacy of Wonderland and will introduce students to NEW traditions of Wonderland with spirit songs and chants.
Friday, August 23rd New Year Orientation and Parent Parting Ceremony: A Parents Parting Ceremony will be held on Friday evening, August 23rd for parents/guardians and their children. The Parents Parting Ceremony is a moving and inspirational ritual that allows parents/guardians and students to define new roles and parents to depart so that their children can begin their “transformation.” This ceremony marks the beginning of the orientation program.
